Splatter Coat

Splatter Coat is a traditional ready-to-use coarse lime plaster preparatory coat, manufactured from mature high-calcium lime putty and carefully graded washed sand in a 1:2 lime putty to aggregate ratio. Designed specifically for application as a splatter, scat or harling key coat, it provides an exceptional mechanical bond for subsequent lime plaster coats while remaining fully breathable and compatible with historic masonry.

Applied by hand using a scoop, harping trowel or conventional trowel, the splatter coat creates a durable textured surface that promotes excellent adhesion on stone, brick, cob, flint and other traditional mineral backgrounds. It is particularly suited to conservation, restoration and new-build projects where traditional materials and techniques are required.

Manufactured using carefully selected aggregates to produce an even, consistent texture, ROJ Pre-Mixed Lime Splatter Coat offers the convenience of a pre-prepared mix while retaining the performance characteristics expected of traditional lime putty mortars. The mortar remains vapour permeable, flexible and sacrificial, allowing moisture to evaporate naturally and helping to protect historic masonry from trapped moisture and salt damage.

As with all lime products, application should be undertaken using appropriate traditional methods, with careful control of background suction, temperature and curing conditions to achieve optimum performance and durability.
