Comprising a range of restrained whites and pale earth tones, this collection reflects the colours historically associated with limewashed surfaces, distempers and plain plaster finishes. Such hues rarely appeared as pure white, being more commonly tempered with small quantities of natural earth pigments to produce a softer and more harmonious effect. From the cooler tones of Lime White and Venetian White to the warmer shades of Fresco and Terra Alba, these colours are reminiscent of the subdued backgrounds encountered in domestic and ecclesiastical interiors throughout Britain and Europe. Their quiet tonality and subtle variation recall the appearance of surfaces coloured with traditional mineral and earth pigments.
