    Tom Balch

    Director

    Tom oversees the running of Rose of Jericho. Having studied history at the University of Bristol he was a recipient of the VCH Young Historian of the Year. With colour, commercial and design experience gained in the print. media and education sectors he has spent the past two decades undertaking a variety of conservation projects, including a project to handmake soft mud bricks using a traditional wood fired brick clamp, for the first time in Somerset for several generations.

    Office & Administration Manager

    Natalie ensures that customers, suppliers and colleagues receive a friendly, efficient and professional service.

    Before joining Rose of Jericho, Natalie worked in an engineering company and later trained as a nurse at a private clinic, where she developed the calm, organised and attentive approach that she now brings to her role at ROJ.

    Combining strong admin skills with excellent communication and a natural ability to look after people, Natalie plays a central role in keeping the business organised and ensuring everything runs smoothly.

    Josh Curry

    Operations Manager


    Josh comes from a background in manufacturing and operations management with a lifelong interest in history and historic buildings. Before this, Josh was a Chef in the historic village of La Forêt-Auvray in France.  Josh manages the operational aspects of production and manufacturing.  Outside of work is also involved in the management of his family farm with an established herd of rare breed cattle.

    Technical & Creative Consultant

    Starting as a paint maker with St Blaise and progressing to General Manager, Nigel has worked at Rose of Jericho for more than quarter of a century. Nigel is a colour specialist able to accurately replicate a paint colour or mortar sample by eye.  Prior to joining Rose of Jericho he ran a landscape gardening company looking after the grounds of several of Dorset’s historic houses. Now many years later, Nigel is semi-retired and continues to support Rose Of Jericho with his extensive knowledge of colour and mortar matching and product knowledge.

    Jamie Wallace

    Technical Officer


    Jamie joined Rose Of Jericho after running his own stone masonry business, specialising in lime work, for over a decade. He brings with him extensive experience and knowledge of stone and geological elements. He is also involved in the Building Limes Forum. Jamie has a burning passion for conservation and historical authenticity, always aiming to provide the solution that best suits the health and well being of the building.

    Peter Ellis FSA

    Historic Buildings Consultant

    Peter Ellis has been involved with the conservation and repair of traditional and historic buildings for the majority of his career. He has developed analytical procedures specifically relevant to historic materials and enjoys an international reputation for the analysis of mortars and plasters. He is a contributor to the recently revised English Heritage Practical Building Conservation series, and has been an advisor on many major projects in the UK and North America. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.

    Chris Dunford

    Paint Shop Supervisor & Craft Lead

    Chris heads up the paint shop, having begun as a paint maker working originally for Rose of Jericho at St Blaise. Chris has almost a quarter of a century of paint making experience and oversees all paint production on site.

    Ben is a time served cabinet maker who has transitioned into a traditional paint maker. Ben has a background in producing high quality, hand crafted furniture and cabinetry and an attention to detail well suited to traditional paint manufacturing.

    Will Stagg

    Paint Maker

    Will previously worked as a decorator and decorative artist in London, working companies such as Ateler London. Having relocated to the West Country he now hand produces the paints he used to apply as a specialist paintmaker.

    James Steer

    Yardsman

    James joined Rose of Jericho having previously built sheds and other timber-framed buildings. He is skilled at repairing machinery and keeping our vintage kit running. He is often found in the crushing and sieving barn processing stone dusts and various additives.

    Michael is continuing a family connection with Rose of Jericho, following in his grandfather’s footsteps. Before coming to ROJ, he worked as a chef, gaining experience in working accurately, efficiently and consistently as part of a busy team.

    Michael now spends his days producing Rose of Jericho’s traditional lime mortars, plasters and renders. The attention to detail, organisation and practical skills developed in the kitchen have transferred naturally into his work in production.

    Debbie oversees the maintainace of the company’s accounts and payroll and maintaining compliance with statutory and financial reporting requirements. Debbie plays a key role in ensuring the business operates efficiently, accurately and with sound financial governance.

    Julie is responsible for hand-painting every Rose of Jericho swatch card, along with our A5 and A4 sample boards, ensuring each accurately represents the colour, texture and finish of our traditional paints. Her meticulous attention to detail provides customers with a true reflection of every product. Outside of Rose of Jericho, Julie is a talented artist with a background in traditional sign writing, bringing decades of practical painting experience and craftsmanship to every sample she produces.

    Head of Security

    Goose is Rose of Jericho's highly regarded Head of Security (Canine Division), responsible for perimeter surveillance, visitor screening, staff wellbeing, and the prompt investigation of any unusual noises, delivery drivers, or suspicious biscuit packets. Working tirelessly in exchange for snacks, treats, and the occasional sausage, Goose maintains exceptionally high levels of morale while ensuring every visitor receives a thorough welcome. His unwavering loyalty, enthusiasm, and commitment to quality assurance have earned him an outstanding performance record, making him one of the company's most dependable—and certainly most popular—members of staff.
