How to use

The bristle blend is what makes this brush right for limewash work. Natural bristle holds the thin, watery limewash and releases it consistently; synthetic fibres reduce brush marks and help build an even, characterful finish. The long 4" bristle holds plenty of paint, reducing reloads on large areas.

For best results:

  • Pre-dampen the brush before first dip to help the bristles take up the wash
  • Apply in loose, irregular strokes — limewash is meant to look soft and varied, not uniform
  • Keep a wet edge and work in manageable sections
  • Maintain right angles to the wall on rough surfaces (brick, stone, render) so the bristle tips do the work
  • Build coverage in multiple thin coats rather than one heavy one

Care

Wash thoroughly in clean water immediately after use - limewash is alkaline and dries out the bristles, shortening the brush's life if left to set. Rinse from the ferrule down toward the bristle tips. Shake out, reshape, and hang to dry by the handle hole. Never leave standing in water.

Note

Some natural bristle shedding is normal in the first few uses. The copper ferrule won't rust, which matters for limewash and sheltercoat work where the brush is regularly soaked.

Also available with a short (2") bristle for tighter detail and rougher surfaces.
