Mars Violet CMV
Mars Violet CMV
Mars Violet is a synthetic iron oxide pigment developed during the nineteenth century to provide a durable and dependable alternative to naturally occurring purple earths. Characterised by its warm reddish-violet hue, it offers exceptional permanence, opacity and resistance to fading, making it one of the most stable violet pigments available for decorative and artistic applications.
Highly valued for its excellent lightfastness and compatibility with traditional paint systems, Mars Violet has been widely used in wall paints, limewash, distemper and casein paints, as well as in artists' colours and decorative finishes. Its subdued, earthy character allows it to harmonise naturally with ochres, umbers and other mineral pigments, making it particularly suitable for historic interiors and period colour schemes.
Rose of Jericho supplies high-quality Mars Violet pigment for use in traditional paints and breathable finishes. Its outstanding durability, natural mineral character and subtle colouring make it an ideal choice for the restoration and decoration of historic buildings, enabling the creation of rich and enduring traditional colour palettes. Organic Violet is not stable in limewash.
