Hornton Brown

Our Hornton Brown Stonedust is a crushed ironstone aggregate sourced from the famous Edge Hill seams on the Oxfordshire-Warwickshire border. Known for its intense, ferruginous character, this "Ironstone" dust is the only way to authentically replicate the deep tawny, rusty-orange, and plum-toned mortars found throughout the North Cotswolds and the Ironstone belt.

Because Hornton stone is rich in iron oxides, using this dust as your primary aggregate provides a natural, vibrant pigment that synthetic dyes simply cannot mimic. It ensures your conservation work ages in total harmony with the surrounding traditional masonry.

<2.36mm - Coarse: Best for wide-jointed Ironstone walling and rubble-stone bedding where a heavy, traditional "grit" is visible. <1.18mm - Medium: The standard choice for repointing ashlar or dressed Hornton stone; balances workability with a crisp, historic finish. 600um - Fine: Ideal for delicate "plastic" stone repairs, fine-jointed lintels, or creating a tinted "fine stuff" for decorative interior plasterwork.
