A traditional dragger brush for creating wood-graining and dragged paint effects. Pulled through wet glaze to leave fine parallel lines that mimic the natural grain of timber. Used on its own or as the first step before flogging and combing for full faux bois work.

How to use

Apply a tinted glaze evenly over a dry basecoat with a flat brush or roller. Hold the dragger at a shallow angle to the surface and pull it down (or across, following the intended grain direction) in one steady, unbroken stroke. The bristles lift the glaze where they make contact, revealing the basecoat underneath as fine parallel lines.

For full wood-graining work:

  1. Drag the wet glaze to lay in the parallel grain
  2. Break the lines up with a flogger
  3. Add knots and figure with a graining comb or rocker
  4. Soften with a badger or softener brush

Wipe excess glaze from the bristles every few strokes to keep the lines crisp.

Care

Wash thoroughly straight after use - cool soapy water for acrylic glazes, white spirit followed by soap for oil-based. Reshape the bristles and hang to dry by the handle hole. Never let glaze dry in the brush, and never stand it on the bristles.
