Hornton Brown
Additional information
Our Hornton Brown Stonedust is a crushed ironstone aggregate sourced from the famous Edge Hill seams on the Oxfordshire-Warwickshire border. Known for its intense, ferruginous character, this "Ironstone" dust is the only way to authentically replicate the deep tawny, rusty-orange, and plum-toned mortars found throughout the North Cotswolds and the Ironstone belt.
Because Hornton stone is rich in iron oxides, using this dust as your primary aggregate provides a natural, vibrant pigment that synthetic dyes simply cannot mimic. It ensures your conservation work ages in total harmony with the surrounding traditional masonry.
-
Rich Ferruginous Tones: Delivers the iconic "burnt orange" and earthy brown hues native to South Midlands heritage architecture.
-
Natural Mineral Variation: Contains the characteristic mineral flecks and occasional fossiliferous fragments found in genuine Hornton Brown stone.
-
Superior Adhesion: The angular nature of the crushed ironstone provides an excellent mechanical key when mixed with Natural Hydraulic Limes (NHL) or Putty.
